Sagicor Foundation Scholarship programme now open for tertiary students
Kingston, Jamaica: May 24, 2022 – With a value of up to $300,000, tertiary students will have an opportunity to further their studies with less financial burden as the Sagicor Foundation scholarship programme opens for 2022. 
Alysia White, Executive Director for the Sagicor Foundation - the charitable arm of Sagicor Group Jamaica - stressed the importance of continuing to assist students through the scholarship programme. 
“We have some of the worlds brightest minds and the most resilient familial bonds you’ll come across right here in Jamaica. Despite all the challenges that these students have experienced, they have still found a way to excel, and their families have ensured they received the support needed.  With the Foundation’s promise to support the country’s education sector through impactful initiatives, the scholarship programme is an investment into not only our youth’s future, but the future of Jamaica,” expressed White.
The tertiary scholarship is open to applicants pursuing their first degree at any of the following institutions — The University of the West Indies, Mona; University of Technology, Jamaica; Northern Caribbean University; Caribbean Maritime University; Mico University College; Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, and University of the Commonwealth Caribbean. Students are selected based on academic performance, community involvement, volunteerism, strong leadership potential and a demonstration of financial need. Applicants or their parents or legal guardian must be a Sagicor Client to apply. 
In 2021, over 39 tertiary students were awarded new scholarships, for renewals, a grade point average of 3.0 and 40 hours of voluntary service with the Sagicor Foundation are mandatory.
Jevaughn Gordon, 2019 scholarship recipient, shared how the programme played an important role in his academic journey at the University of the West Indies. “Since I’ve been awarded the Sagicor Foundation Scholarship my life has changed. The programme helps us to be holistic in way where we are not only focused on our academic journey but are introduced to skills such as leadership, public relations, networking and good corporate abilities that will help us to land a job. The programme has also helped me to have an exceptional transition into university and I am grateful for that.”
Application deadline for the tertiary scholarship is June 13, 2022, students can apply online at .
The Sagicor Foundation also offers secondary scholarships to grade six students who are listed as dependents under a Sagicor Group (Employer) Health Insurance Plan or the Government Employees Health Scheme. Students must have sat the current's year Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examination. Those scholarships are valued at $50,000 each and renewable annually up to five years.
