Three reasons why wellness should be high on your agenda

Taking good care of yourself and being concerned about your wellness is an important part of living that many of us may not consider often.
But with life’s many obstacles and stressors, each individual needs to carve out time for maintaining their overall wellness.
According to Shani McGraham Shirley, Sagicor’s health and wellness ambassador, achieving true wellness is a balancing of one’s mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, financial, and social wellbeing.
It is the linchpin that helps individuals to enjoy a fulfilled life and ultimately preserves health.
‘Wellness is not just physical health; it’s everything that makes you feel whole and feel good.’
‘These are the healthy habits you do daily that cause you to thrive instead of just survive,’ she stated.
She noted that to maintain wellness, persons need not just set goals but make a plan on how they will be achieved.
This she said would keep persons accountable, focused, and encouraged to stay the course and complete the tasks.
‘Whether you are an intrinsically or extrinsically motivated person, having a personal wellness plan will keep you on track to achieve your goals’, she urged.
‘Make the plan, do it for you, do it for your family, do it for your future generations.’
Below, McGraham Shirley shares a few reasons why everyone should have a wellness plan.
Your health is an investment in you and you are important
When life is overwhelmingly full, we tend to put ourselves on the back burner, thinking self-care is a luxury we simply can’t afford.
But this is not true, our wellness needs to be a priority, especially amid chaos.
A plan keeps you on track with your goals
As the popular adage goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail and failure is not an option.
Though planning is not always foolproof, it is a start that will give you a clear view of your intended trajectory and keep you focused.
‘A goal without a plan is just a wish’ – stop wishing and take the steps required to meet your goals.
A plan makes your tasks more manageable
When I feel completely overwhelmed, I make a list and keep my plan simple.
With just a simple to-do list, you can take what felt like an impossibly daunting task, and make it feel manageable and doable.
Each time you check off what you have completed, you’ll then feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that you are on your way to achieving the mountain goal.
