Are you prepared?

The hurricane season has started, so it’s important that we get ourselves, family and homes prepared for the unexpected. We’ve been experiencing bad weather across the region in the past week with lots of rain showers and some thunderstorms. Don’t wait until the storm hits. Here are 3 important things to do NOW!

1. Get an insurance Checkup  – Review your Homeowner’s or Householders Insurance to ensure that it is up to date and that you have adequate coverage to rebuild after a disaster. Even if you are a tenant, insurance can play a vital role in your hurricane preparedness.  You should ensure that your home is adequately insured for damage caused by high winds, flooding or storm surge.
2. Home Inventory – Create photo documentation of all valuables and keep your important documents together in a waterproof bag or container for quick access. Creating an inventory of your valuables and possessions makes the insurance claims process easier and faster
3. Assemble Disaster Supplies – Ensure that there is enough food and water for each member of your family for at least one week.  Be sure to fill your prescriptions and have your medication close by.  Fill your vehicle with fuel and keep some extra cash on hand.  Have radios, flashlights, batteries, toiletries and other must haves, close at hand.
