Sagicor Welcomes 40 Students to Summer Internship INSPIRE Programme
Bridgetown, Barbados- Sagicor has officially welcomed a new cohort of dynamic and driven students to its INSPIRE Internship Programme, providing them with hands-on, real-world experience at one of the region’s leading financial and insurance institutions.
The highly sought-after summer programme under the theme ‘Inspire, Prepare and Grow,’ attracted over 700 applications, with 40 students selected for this year’s cohort. This reflects the growing demand among students for meaningful exposure in the financial services industry.

Designed to bridge the gap between academia and the corporate world, the INSPIRE programme offers interns the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the areas of insurance, investments, customer service, marketing, finance, human resources, and technology. Interns are matched with departments based on their field of study and career interests, and work alongside experienced mentors to develop core professional skills.
The INSPIRE programme is a key part of Sagicor’s youth development strategy, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to investing in future leaders. Over the next few weeks, interns will participate in live projects, networking sessions, executive talks, and other activities.
During the recent orientation for the interns, Sagicor’s Vice President of Employee Experience and Strategy Shane Howell, encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity.
"As you step into your respective departments and new environments, know that you're about to collaborate with and learn from some of the brightest minds in the industry. This is your opportunity to observe but beyond that be courageous enough to ask questions, share your perspectives, contribute, and grow. By the end of your internship, we hope you’ll not only be able to apply what you've learned to your area of study, but also walk away with real-world experience, improved self-confidence, and a clearer sense of your potential."
Saffia Dash a Management and Business Analytics student at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus is happy to be one of the lucky interns. “I am looking forward to gaining new skills and competencies to help me further develop myself for my future career.” Meanwhile, fellow intern and student Nikayla Als who is pursuing a degree in Economics and Finance, is eager about what she will learn over the next six weeks. “I’m really excited to be here and take part in this programme, because of the opportunity for hands-on learning , mentorship and to be part of a real financial environment,” she said
Sagicor has long championed initiatives that support youth empowerment and career readiness across the Caribbean. The INSPIRE internship continues to be a launchpad for future professionals, with several past interns going on to join the company full-time or assume leadership roles in the wider industry.
The 2025 cohort of INSPIRE interns will complete the programme on August 8th.
