Sagicor signs on as Silver Sponsor for UWI-ROYTEC's Exceptional Teaching Awards

January 08, 2021

Port of Spain, Trinidad: The COVID-19 pandemic upended many planned activities and events in 2020, but Sagicor’s commitment to corporate social responsibility continued relatively uninterrupted. On December 15, Jacinto Martinez, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, for Sagicor Life Inc, presented a cheque for $10,000 to executives from UWI-ROYTEC, as the company signed on as a sponsor for the educational institution’s Exceptional Teaching Awards.

The awards programme was created to recognise exceptional teaching at the educational facility. It identifies and rewards faculty members who demonstrate exceptional teaching through consistently positive feedback from students, use of sound teaching strategies and the adoption of a teaching philosophy that is student-centred and aligned with UWI-ROYTEC’s mission, vision and core values. The awards programme will grant between three to five Exceptional Teaching Awards and other forms of recognition every two years.

Present at the cheque handover were Donald Aché, Sagicor advisor to UWI-ROYTEC, Dr Ronald Brunton, Director of Academic Services and Lindsay Brent Boodoo, Manager – Marketing and Services for UWI-ROYTEC.

Speaking on Sagicor’s sponsorship, Martinez said, “Educators are one of the cornerstones of a successful society and Sagicor is pleased to sign on as a sponsor for the Exceptional Teaching Awards, which seeks to recognise those who are providing excellent support and guidance within the UWIROYTEC system. Programmes of recognition like this are very important as they provide additional motivation to our educators and inspire new entrants into the field.”

Dr. Brunton, who provides leadership for academic services, thanked Sagicor for its support. “We’re grateful that Sagicor has decided to be a sponsor for this programme that we will be rolling out in 2021. This year we saw our academic team pull together to deliver continued guidance and teaching to our students under unprecedented circumstances. This awards programme will go a long way to recognise their contributions and provide support for further education and training.”
