Bridgetown, Barbados: Sagicor has once again set itself apart, this time through music. The company’s corporate band, Chillax, has achieved a milestone by completing and excelling in examinations from the prestigious London College of Music (LCM).

This historic achievement marks the first time a corporate band in Barbados and the region, has been assessed and accredited by the LCM. It's a feat that Managing Director of East Point Productions and local LCM Representative Kellie Cadogan describes as a major moment for music and corporate culture in the Caribbean.

Ms. Cadogan praised the dedication and success of Sagicor’s band, adding that Chillax’s participation is "a big deal" and expressed her excitement that a corporate entity saw the value in musical accreditation. “I love the fact that they were interested and the work that they put in. They have not just done the exams, but they have excelled, receiving a distinction in their ensemble entry. They are not just playing and enjoying music, but are serious about being assessed as well. So congratulations Sagicor.”

The Chillax Band is the brainchild of Mr. Paul Inniss, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados) and the Chief Revenue Officer, who saw untapped musical potential within the company. Formed in 2020 with just 10 members, the band has since grown to 23 members, comprising a full complement of musicians, from clarinets and brass instruments to steel pan, bass, and percussion.

Musical Director of the band Jason Morris, described their achievement as the perfect way to celebrate their 5th anniversary and recognize the team’s consistent dedication. “We are now an accredited band with a certificate that is an internationally recognized standard. It represents a very committed set of individuals. One of the things it does for us is it sets us apart from the others, but this is a way of life for Sagicor. We are probably the first band to have our exams at the historic Garrison Clocktower and it just shows that as Sagicorians, we set trends that others have to follow.”

With this milestone, the Chillax Band reinforces Sagicor’s commitment to not just excellence in financial services but also in creative expression, community engagement, and the overall development of its people.
