Sagicor Plants 185 Trees in Chaguaramas to Mark 185th Anniversary

May 23, 2026

Port of Spain, Trinidad: Staff of Sagicor, together with their families and environmental partner Eco Titans Community, came together on Saturday 23 May 2026 to plant 185 trees in Chaguaramas as part of the company’s commemorative 185 Trees initiative.

The Hike and Plant event brought together approximately 133 staff members, children and relatives for a morning focused on environmental stewardship, family participation and community action. The initiative forms part of a wider regional campaign through which trees are being planted across 16 markets where Sagicor operates, commemorating the company’s 185 years of service across the Caribbean and the Americas.

Originally planned as a 120-tree exercise, the Trinidad event expanded to 185 trees following an enthusiastic response from employees and their families.

Addressing participants at the start of the activity, Robert Trestrail, Chief Executive Officer, Sagicor Life Inc thanked staff, family members, the Eco Titans Community and all those involved in organising the event for dedicating part of their Saturday morning to a meaningful cause.

“From Barbados to the Caribbean, and now across the American hemisphere, Sagicor’s legacy has been built not only through business success, but through people, communities and long-term investment in the future,” he said. “Planting trees is a powerful symbol because trees outlive us and continue to provide value for generations.”

Trestrail also reflected on the personal significance of the initiative, particularly for employees participating alongside their children.

“Each tree planted today represents growth, care and responsibility. Many of our employees have their children here today, and that makes this especially meaningful because children learn not only from what we say, but from what they see us do,” he added.

The company noted that the Chaguaramas exercise builds on the Trinidad and Tobago launch of the 185 Trees initiative earlier this year at the San Fernando Boys’ Government Primary School, where students, teachers and Sagicor representatives planted olive, red stem palm and poui trees on the school compound.

Asha Nabbie, Vice-President, Marketing and Communications, Sagicor Southern Caribbean, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to sustainability and long-term environmental impact.

“Planting trees today is an investment in tomorrow — a lasting symbol of growth, resilience and hope for future generations,” she said. “By involving families, schools and communities, we hope to encourage greater appreciation for the role each person can play in protecting and preserving the environment.”

Sagicor also expressed appreciation to the Chaguaramas Development Authority for facilitating the activity and to the Eco Titans Community for partnering on the project.

The company’s 185 Trees initiative will continue later this year with a Tobago Hike and Plant activity, further extending the environmental campaign across Trinidad and Tobago.
