Sagicor donates thermometers to Rebirth House

Port of Spain, Trinidad— Rehabilitation centre Rebirth House has not been left out of the COVID-19 relief effort. As part of its vision and increased mandate to uplift communities, particularly throughout the COVID-19 period, leading financial services entity Sagicor recently supported the organisation with six handheld thermometers—a vital tool in the fight against COVID-19.
On receiving the donation, Steve Richards, Project Director at Rebirth House, said, “Drug and substance abuse are not just public health concerns, but also social and development issues. Rebirth House continues to serve society at large with emphasis not just on the vulnerable but also their families, who are integral to the rehabilitation of abusers. Gestures like this one from Sagicor are so very welcomed, as it aids us in helping those in need. As frontline workers, we need to protect ourselves and those who we serve.”
Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Sagicor Life Inc, Jacinto Martinez, echoed similar sentiments. He said: “Steve and the team at Rebirth House have given their lives to this cause and understand that if one falls, we all fall. That type of passion and dedication must be supported and should be monumentalised as an example to our youth and the wider public. During this global pandemic, it is easy for the vulnerable to fall through the cracks of society and become forgotten. Sagicor is here to say we will assist where we can.”
Rebirth House has been in existence for the past 32 years and aims to provide a residential service for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. They also offer a 24-hour hotline, as well as counselling services for addicts and their families. Rebirth House currently has 80 clients at its three locations in St Ann’s, Carenage and Chaguaramas.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Sagicor has actively supported thousands of citizens and organisations. In the early stages of the pandemic, they partnered with local broadcast media to deliver tutorials to assist the nation’s children with their continued education; delivered essential food and hygiene supplies to homes for children and the elderly; donated supplies to socially displaced persons, and distributed care kits via their branch network to individuals and families in various communities.
These contributions supplemented a donation from the wider Sagicor Group which facilitated the purchase of walk-through scanners at Barbados’ ports of entry; the purchase of handheld scanners in the Eastern Caribbean; and the purchase of medical equipment in Jamaica.
