Sagicor donates 20, 000 N95 masks to essential workers
Port of Spain, Trinidad—Leading insurer Sagicor has again stepped up in support of the Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19 in Trinidad & Tobago. Sagicor donated 20,000 N95 masks and 1,000 face shields to essential workers in the Ministry of Health. It also assisted with the procurement of COVID-19 educational brochures for distribution to the public and pledged further support via the procurement of 100,000 3-ply medical masks.
This support was made possible through the generous contribution of US$1 million by Sagicor Financial Company to assist the islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States in its ongoing battle against the COVID-19 virus.
The Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, said, “On behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, I want to thank Sagicor for all the support it has extended to our healthcare workers during this significant health challenge. While I can assure the nation that there are no shortfalls in our system, we are grateful to have more masks on hand. This means that we can continue to ensure that our healthcare workers have a sense of comfort as they care for COVID-19 patients in our public health facilities. There is indeed good supply in hand and we are grateful that we can augment our supply.”
Keston Howell, President and CEO of Sagicor General Insurance, in making the donation said, “Sagicor continues to work every day to be an organisation that is living its corporate vision ‘to be a great company committed to improving the lives of the people in the communities in which we operate.’
“The response to COVID-19 requires the support of all of society and a collaboration of both the public and private sector. Essential workers, particularly in the healthcare system, are at the front lines of this fight and in so doing, place themselves directly in harm’s way. We hope that this donation goes a long way in offering them the protection they need to keep themselves safe.”
Sagicor has also actively supported thousands of Trinidad and Tobago citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic: by partnering with local broadcast media to deliver tutorials to assist our nation’s children with their continued education, particularly those undertaking SEA (Secondary Entrance Assessment) and CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate); delivering essential food and hygiene supplies to homes for children and the elderly; donating supplies to socially displaced persons, well as by distributing care kits via our branch network to communities.
These contributions supplement the purchase of walk-through scanners in Barbados’s ports of entry; the purchase of handheld scanners in the Eastern Caribbean; and the purchase of medical equipment in Jamaica.
