Castries, St Lucia: Junior lawn tennis action continues apace with the start of the Sagicor COTEEC Under 14 and Under 12 Tournament from Sunday 12th August at the National Tennis Centre in Beausejour, Gros Islet. This tournament is being hosted by the St Lucia Tennis Association and Sagicor Life Inc.

Young athletes from Barbados, Antigua, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St Lucia and more will be serving up in competitive matches as they prepare and vie for ranking on the COTECC Junior Circuit.

This is the first time that Sagicor is sponsoring the event which is part of the official calendar of events for the Central American and Caribbean Tennis Federation (COTECC) which is the governing body for tennis in Central America and the Caribbean.

Eon Phillips, Assistant Vice President Operations, Eastern Caribbean and Belize and Branch Manager and Principal Representative of Sagicor Life St. Lucia spoke warmly of the possibilities for the relationship. “We look forward to building a great relationship with the St Lucia Tennis Association and supporting the development of tennis in our country. We are also very happy to be sponsoring the Under-14 and Under-12 segment of the tournament as we see this group as contributing to the cadre of new and upcoming players for St Lucia and the wider region. We also look forward to doing more in the schools for developing potential players, especially in the rural communities.” 

The Tournament kicks off on Sunday 12th August with the official Opening Ceremony from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Tennis Centre which is open to the public. Matches run from Monday 13th to Thursday 16th from 8:30 am and there will be a Closing Ceremony on the evening of the Thursday 16th with distribution of trophies and medals to the participants. The public is invited to all matches and there are daily match updates on the tournament’s Facebook pages: NTC St Lucia and Tennis St Lucia.
