Bridgetown, Barbados: Sagicor has reinforced its commitment to youth development and education through its support of the Ministry of Education Transformation’s inaugural Micro Games 2026, a three-day track and field event specifically designed for children aged three to

Focused on play, confidence-building, cooperation and physical literacy rather than competition, the Micro Games created an engaging environment where children could strengthen foundational social and motor skills through fun-filled activities.

Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados) Paul Inniss, said the company’s support for the initiative aligns closely with several of Sagicor’s corporate social responsibility pillars. “At Sagicor, we believe meaningful investment in our children must begin from the earliest stages of development. The Micro Games initiative aligns strongly with our focus on youth and community development, education and sports. Seeing these young children engaged, active and building confidence through play is exactly the type of impact we are proud to support,” he said.

Mr. Inniss added that initiatives like the Micro Games help build healthier communities by encouraging active lifestyles, social interaction and positive developmental experiences from an early age.

Education Officer in Early Childhood at the Ministry of Education Transformation, Shioma Francis-Porte, described the games as an important developmental platform for young children and a precursor to the National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championship (NAPSAC). She also underscored the value of private sector support for educational initiatives. “It shows your commitment and dedication to these causes. Children start at a very small stage and it can’t just come from the parents, it must come from the wider corporate Barbados.”

She also commended Sagicor’s enthusiastic involvement from the outset, including both financial support and volunteer participation. The Micro Games 2026 brought together

scores of preschoolers from across Barbados in a vibrant celebration of movement, teamwork and early childhood development.
