Bridgetown, Barbados: Sagicor has recorded unprecedented interest in its Inspire Internship Vacation Program, receiving about 2,800 applications for its 2026 intake and selecting its largest-ever cohort of 75 interns. The figures represent a significant increase from 2025, when the programme attracted 1,500 applications and welcomed 45 interns, underscoring the growing appeal and impact of one of Barbados' leading corporate internship initiatives.
The record-breaking milestone was announced during the programme's orientation session held this morning at Sagicor's Corporate Headquarters in Wildey, where company executives welcomed the successful applicants and highlighted the programme's continued commitment to developing the next generation of professionals.
Speaking to the media at the event, Vice President of Employee Experience and Strategy, Shane Howell, said the overwhelming response reflects both the strength of the Sagicor brand and the company's longstanding commitment to youth development. "Under our general focus of improving the communities that we serve in, we have always been committed to youth development. Internships really give us an opportunity to directly connect with youth and bring them into our eco-system, encourage them to have a voice and really expose them to real-world experience.”
This year's programme comes as Sagicor celebrates its 185th anniversary, further reinforcing the company's enduring investment in community development and talent cultivation across the region.
In welcoming the interns, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor General Insurance Inc, Patrick Hinkson, emphasized the unique breadth of experience available through the programme.
"As interns at Sagicor you are getting to experience not only a company with an extensive legacy of almost two centuries, but multiple business lines. We have businesses in general and life insurance, investments, banking, real estate, property management and Barbados farms. So we are happy to have you join us and hope the experience will be both educational and fun."
Over the six-week programme, interns will gain hands-on exposure to the professional world across Sagicor's diverse portfolio of businesses. In addition to practical workplace experience, participants will engage corporate social responsibility initiatives, reinforcing the importance of community involvement and giving back.
The record number of applications and expanded intake highlight the increasing demand among young Barbadians for meaningful workplace experiences and demonstrate Sagicor's continued leadership in investing in the country's future workforce.
