Bridgetown, Barbados; Having reached over 1,500 Barbadians through free community health screenings over the past 18 months, Sagicor Cares is preparing to expand its impact across the Caribbean.
Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados) has announced plans to expand the programme to three additional territories in 2026, building on the success of an initiative that has brought preventive healthcare services to communities in every parish across Barbados.
The announcement was made following a special appreciation event for members of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Field Medical Unit, the lead partner in the Barbados programme.
Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados), Paul Inniss, said, “Over the last 18 months, we have seen the need and value firsthand the difference health awareness, early detection and preventative care can make. We believe persons in other territories would also benefit from this initiative. At Sagicor, we understand that knowing your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol numbers is often the first step toward better health.”
During the appreciation event, members of the BDF Field Medical Unit were recognized for their hard work alongside Sagicor Cares at health screenings across the island. Many of the officers were deployed to Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa last October, delaying a planned Christmas appreciation presentation.
Medical Liaison Officer of the BDF Emergency Medical Team and Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel David Clarke, welcomed the recognition and praised the longstanding partnership between the two organizations. “The relationship with Sagicor began during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued to grow. The partnership through Sagicor Cares is
becoming even stronger and we are already looking at opportunities to expand this collaboration beyond Barbados.”
Lieutenant Colonel Clarke also thanked Sagicor for its financial support while the BDF medical contingent was deployed in Jamaica assisting communities affected by the hurricane.
Launched to improve access to preventive healthcare, Sagicor Cares provides free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and other key health indicators while promoting healthier lifestyles and early intervention.
With regional expansion now planned, the programme is poised to bring its message of prevention and wellness to even more communities across the region.
