Team Sagicor urged to Go Brave
February 06, 2023
Sagicor team members were urged to ‘Go Brave’, at the financial conglomerate’s annual kick-off meeting, branded Ignite, at the National Academy of the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain, on Tuesday, January 31. The theme is a vibrant call to action for the year 2023 and beyond, and stands for ‘be Bold, be Reflective, live with Accountability, have a Vision, then Execute.’ Team members were greeted by moko jumbies and the Siparia Rhythm Section and were also entertained before the 1.30 pm start with a selfie booth and Sagicor-themed spin-the-wheel.
President and CEO Robert Trestrail, in addressing the audience, said, “This year’s theme is asking us, personally and professionally, to leave that safe and predictable bubble we’re in and be courageous enough to level up.” He urged the audience, which comprised team members from across the organisation, to take the time to do the introspection needed to figure out the scope of the vision they have for their life.
The team event also marked a momentous occasion, as Sagicor Life Inc and Sagicor General Insurance Inc recently transferred all business to newly incorporated entities Sagicor Life Insurance Trinidad & Tobago Limited and Sagicor General Insurance Trinidad & Tobago Limited as required by the Insurance Act.
To this Trestrail added, “We stand on the shoulders of the great men and women who paved the way for us to reach this point in our Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) history. Incorporation for us in T&T is a significant achievement, especially since Sagicor has been in the country since the late 19th century. We’re a part of the fabric of the land and incorporating locally clearly demonstrates our investment in the economic growth of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Also in attendance was Group Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer Andre Mousseau, who was recently announced as incoming President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company Ltd. He received a warm Trinidad and Tobago welcome from the 700-strong crowd.
Other highlights of the event included a panel discussion which focused on the reflective aspect of the theme featuring team members who spoke to the many achievements across the Group over the past year, including the launch of eLife – a platform allowing for the purchase of insurance online and the organisation’s many corporate social responsibility efforts. Also sharing on the Ignite stage was the company’s leadership in a discussion focused on accountability, ably moderated by Chairman Peter Clarke. The team also had several light-hearted moments including an entertaining lip sync battle.
