Sagicor donates personal alarms to TTPS
Insurance and financial services entity Sagicor recently donated over 150 personal alarm keychains to the Gender Based Violence Unit (GBVU) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
This donation follows on from Sagicor’s campaign, titled “Protect our Women”, which was used to bring awareness and drive education towards the issue of gender-based violence. The campaign supported four NGOs: the Rape Crisis Society of Trinidad and Tobago; The Shelter; the Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and Families in Action. Sagicor’s support assisted these NGOs with their intervention programmes.
Robert Trestrail, President and CEO, Sagicor Life Inc, said, “We are pleased to support the TTPS, as well as help the women and men who have been impacted by gender-based violence.”
Sgt Nashia Moreau, from the Unit, said, “The GBVU is happy to receive these alarms from Sagicor. I know that our clients will feel a measure of safety having these tools in hand. Both women and men experience gender-based violence, and we know that men are often ashamed to report and speak out on their experiences. These alarms will go a long way.”
As part of the campaign, Sagicor also hosted a personal safety webinar and sponsored “Sagicor Safety Tips for Women.” These tips were aired on radio and shared on the company’s social media platforms to further raise awareness.
