Sagicor branch manager motivates Girl Guides for International Womens Day

March 16, 2023
Branch manager Camille Sinanan of Sagicor was pleased to present a motivational talk to the troops at the Girl Guides Association of Trinidad and Tobago’s annual World Thinking Day event on March 4 in Couva. (World Thinking Day is normally celebrated on February 22 in 152 countries and is an important day in the Girl Guides calendar. This year’s theme was Our World, Our Peaceful Future, The Environment & Peace.)

As part of Sagicor’s International Women’s Day participation this year, the regional insurer focused on the theme “You Go Girl: Embracing Gender Equity” to highlight the achievements of women across  Sagicor who are dominating fields traditionally occupied by men.

Sinanan said, “It was a pleasure to speak to the young ladies. I was able to use the knowledge I gained by reflecting on my own journey to my current position as branch manager in the male-dominated insurance industry. To create change in society, it’s important to engage with our youths in a manner that they can relate to. Talking about my work experience in terms they would understand was key to the message.”

Jacqueline Dolly, outgoing chief commissioner at Girl Guides, said, “It was indeed a pleasure to have Ms Sinanan address girls from all levels of our association, from our six-year-old Brownies to adults. The interactive session held everyone’s attention. The event was a great opportunity for Sagicor to advocate that everyone should have equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of gender. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Sagicor, as we work together to support initiatives that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.”

Sinanan’s speech touched on being focused, determined, hopeful, and empowered. Sinanan urged the girls to focus on what they want and work towards it, and to use their challenges to their advantage. She advised them to never stop learning and to use their education and advancement to build others up. She closed her session by advising them to live their life on their own terms.

Sagicor also presented the organisation with a donation to support its volunteer work of empowerment and development of females to become responsible citizens.
