Piparo Presbyterian gets paved school yard as part of Sagicor’s Adopt a School programme
Port of Spain, Trinidad—Financial services company Sagicor was pleased to arrange the resurfacing of the school yard at Piparo Presbyterian Primary School recently. This work was the main objective of the partnership with the school that extends for the 2022/2023 academic year, as part of the company’s Adopt-a-School programme.
The Adopt-A-School corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was first launched in the 2021/2022 academic year with the Mundo Nuevo RC Primary School. This CSR programme is underpinned by four key pillars: physical environment, health, developmental and educational programmes and safety, and includes support of various school initiatives and overall outreach.
Now in its second year, six primary schools were adopted from across the southern Caribbean, with the programme set to conclude in July 2023, after which a new cohort of schools will be chosen.
Sagicor’s president and CEO Robert Trestrail said, “Sagicor understands that supporting the needs of the nation’s children requires a holistic approach and so we were pleased to support our nation’s schools as part of our Adopt-a-School initiative. Investing in our communities benefits all of us and making it safe for our children to play and enjoy their school years is invaluable.”
School principal Magdalene Ali said, “The schoolyard looks wonderful and the staff, students and the Presbyterian Primary School Board are thankful for Sagicor’s investment in this rural community. The students now have a safe place to play, and as we often host outdoor activities, we can now do so in comfort.”
Schools were selected from several nominations submitted by Sagicor team members in each territory, with the final schools chosen by staff committees that conducted a period of review and shortlisting.
