Sagicor donates computers to St Jude’s

Port of Spain, Trinidad—For Sagicor Life Inc, living the company’s vision is an integral part of the organisation’s business practices: To be a great company committed to improving the lives of the people in the communities in which we operate.

This extends to the Sagicor Inspire Vacation Internship Programme, which includes a corporate social responsibility (CSR) component. This year, the Human Resources team selected the refurbishment of the computer room of the St Jude’s Home for Girls, located in Belmont.

Robert Trestrail, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Sagicor Life Inc, said, “We recognise that there is still a gap between those who have access to technology and the skills to benefit from it, and those who don’t. I foresee this project having a positive, long-term impact on the lives of these young women.”

The first phase was completed in August, with the painting of the computer room and replacing the air conditioning units. Adrienne Baptiste, one of the interns who worked on the project said, “I love that Sagicor puts emphasis on community. I am grateful for being a part of it.”

The second phase took place on September 6, with the installation of eight desktop computers. This will give the young women who live at the home the opportunity to learn much-needed computer skills that will give them a leg-up in today’s world.
