Sagicor supports past cricketers

Regional insurer Sagicor continued its support of the Past Cricketers Society’s annual fundraiser, by purchasing tickets and donating the meals to the Living Water Community for distribution.

Jacinto Martinez, vice president, sales at Sagicor Life Inc, said, “Sagicor is a big believer in uplifting our communities and there is no better unifier than cricket in the Caribbean. Supporting the Past Cricketers Society through their fundraiser gave us the opportunity to help those who have given the best of themselves with glorious cricket, to enjoy their golden years.”

Former national cricketer Gary Almandoz said, “I’ve been  an executive on the committee from inception, back in 2012. We started off just as a reunion or to meet and greet fellow past national, as well as club cricketers who competed against each other over the years, and this is East, West, North, South and Central. Then we went on to honouring not only some of the players but the officials and umpires who we thought made major thankless and even voluntary contributions.”

“We have also financially assisted some of our stalwarts (some who have passed) with their medical and care expenses, as well as contributed a number of hampers to flood victims on more than one occasion.”

Almandoz extended thanks to all supporters of the association. “As time goes on, we don’t know what the future holds but our mission is to continue to try and assist our counterparts who have made yeoman contributions to this popular sport. On behalf of the committee, we’re very thankful and appreciative to all our supporters and well-wishers who have assisted and continue to assist in this worthy cause, especially Sagicor who has done so from our first fundraiser.”
