Sagicor Group Jamaica continues to develop transformational leaders through SagicorLEAD Programme
Kingston, Jamaica – May 24, 2022: As a part of its succession planning and leadership development programme, Sagicor Group Jamaica (SGJ) has now graduated its second cohort of promising transformational leaders through its SagicorLEAD programme. Designed to prepare outstanding team members from across the group to take on leadership roles in the organization, participants are taken through a series of leadership building skills and engagements over a period of up to two years.
These activities include formal training sessions from the Mona School of Business and Management, as well as internationally renowned Dale Carnegie Training Series, on-the-job training, rotations within various departments across the group, quarterly review sessions, and selected reading materials. Participants were chosen by an interview panel consisting of senior leaders across SGJ.
The 2022 graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 24 at Courtyard by Marriot, where 15 team members graduated, and 17 team members were inducted into the third cohort.
Graduate Jermaine Stewart, Pre-Underwriting Officer and Broker Team Lead at Sagicor Life, expressed that his participation in the programme has allowed him to grow significantly. “The programme has allowed me to hone my leadership skills and develop a greater appreciation for transformational leadership, become a more effective communicator, widen my network of valuable contacts and learn how to develop effective strategies in the accomplishment of broader goals,” Shared Stewart, who was also co-valedictorian of his SagicorLEAD graduating class. The programme is described as a performance-driven initiative where each participant is assigned two mentors to provide personal and professional guidance for 18 months.
Co-valedictorian, Jhanine Jackson, Assistant Manager, Sale & Leasing at Sagicor Property Services also shared her SagicorLEAD experience. “We were challenged to stretch our minds and were also well supported by the Group Human Resources team. Being selected was a tremendous honor. We all gained insight into leadership and learned skills with each training session which I personally implemented right away.”
Mark Chisolm, Sagicor Life Executive Vice President, Individual Life, congratulated the graduating cohort on the completion of the programme and welcomed the new inductees during the ceremony. “As we Peak Everything in 2022, I challenge the SagicorLEAD graduands and inductees to continue to learn, explore, advance and disrupt the status quo. Take the knowledge that you have acquired and ensure that you use the skills garnered in accomplishing your personal and professional goals.”
Karl Williams, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services at Sagicor Group Jamaica expressed that the programme has been an important addition to SGJ’s commitment in ensuring team members are equipped to unlock their full leadership potential. “We have the right talent in place and as such we must nurture our potential peak performers to achieve personal growth and career development. We are pleased that the programme has now graduated its second cohort and inducting a third, that means we have been doing something right and that our team members are eager to utilize such an opportunity.”
