Sagicor General recognises agency achievements
June 12, 2023
Sagicor General Insurance Trinidad & Tobago Limited (SGI) hosted its agency awards ceremony on Thursday, May 25, at the Trinidad Hilton in Port of Spain. Continuing the Brave theme from Sagicor’s annual kick-off meeting in January, the ‘Beyond Brave’ awards recognised the 2022 achievements of its top corporate and individual agents, as well as the company’s long service awardees.
SGI’s president and CEO, Keston Howell, lauded the company’s top producing agencies. “Our collective efforts allowed us to achieve a 90% retention ratio in T&T for 2022, with gross written premiums of US$29.5 million up three per cent from the US$28.8 million earned in 2021. On a consolidated basis our net income to shareholders was US$4.5 million compared to a plan of US$4 million. These successes have occurred against a backdrop of the hard insurance market the Caribbean region is currently facing, as reinsurance rates over the last few years have been increasing. Our team continues to find innovative ways to add value to our clients and a major way we’ve done that is through our customer service. The results speak for themselves.”
One of the event’s big repeat winners was TLS Financial Services Ltd, headed by Timothy Sooklal, who not only captured six awards (top agency of the year, new business all classes, silver; agency of the year, total gross written premium (GWP), new and renewals, silver; highest volume of new applications; highest GWP for one policy; and highest retention) but also the night’s highest accolade—top agency of the year (new business). Sooklal also celebrated his ten-year long-service anniversary with the organisation.
Independent salesperson Anthony Sui continued his winning streak from 2021 in his category, capturing three awards: highest retention; lowest loss ratio (motor); and highest GWP for one new business policy.
Prime General Insurance Ltd won gold in both the agency of the year total GWP (new business and renewals), and agency of the year for all classes in new business categories. Wilson’s Insurance and Advisory Services was also in winner’s row, earning the title of most efficient premium paying agency, as well as receiving its ten-year long service award.
The night’s achievements would not be complete without mentioning Hudama Limited as Agency on the Rise and top agency of the year (new business) in the bronze category.
Other agents receiving awards were Risk Expertz Ltd, and In One General Insurance Services Ltd.
