Sagicor ends current school programme on high note
Port of Spain, Trinidad—Regional insurer Sagicor ended its 2022/2023 Adopt-A-School programme on a high note with a “Play Day” at its adopted school, Piparo Presbyterian.
The day saw the students and staff enjoy the bouncy castle, life-sized Jenga, tic-tac-toe, Ludo, snakes and ladders, facepainting and other activities.
Sagicor’s president and CEO Robert Trestrail said, “Sagicor is proud to have partnered with Piparo Presbyterian for the past academic year. The school received support from our team across a wide range of activities, including our main project of repaving the school yard. We were also pleased to assist with health checks in conjunction with Central Medical Centre; vision testing with Ferreira Optical; an interactive reading session in recognition of World Book Day; a Money Talks session on how to save for a rainy day; and several more activities. We aimed to focus on the students in a holistic way and continue to embrace such opportunities to live our vision.”
School principal Magdalene Ali said, “The staff and students, as well as the Presbyterian Board, are thankful to Sagicor for their support throughout this academic year. The numerous activities that Sagicor has sponsored have exposed the students to things they would not have ordinarily engaged with and for that I am grateful for partnering with Sagicor. Paving of the school yard may seem like a simple thing to some but for us, we see multiple practical uses. We can’t thank Sagicor enough.”
This Sagicor Group corporate social responsibility project, which is implemented across its southern Caribbean territories, provides support in various forms including upgrades to schools’ facilities, support of various school initiatives and overall outreach, and is underpinned by four key pillars: physical environment, health, developmental and educational programmes, and safety.
It is set to relaunch soon for the upcoming academic year. Schools will be selected from several nominations submitted by Sagicor team members in each territory, with the final schools chosen by staff committees.
