Sagicor donates tablets to Tobago schools

Port of Spain, Trinidad—It has been ten months since online school has become a way of life for the nation’s children, with no end in sight. With the digital push in education, it has become even more critical that students have access to devices that will allow them to do their schoolwork and keep up with their classes. Sagicor is pleased to handover tablets to L’Anse Fourmi Methodist Primary School, Patience Hill Government School, and Charlotteville SDA Primary School, as part of the Ministry of Education’s Adopt-A-School initiative.

Robert Trestrail, President and CEO, Sagicor Life Inc, said, “The effects of COVID-19 have meant that we all have to be our brother’s keeper, so Sagicor is pleased to especially support schools in Tobago. Even with the hope of a vaccine, life as we know it isn’t going to return to normal in the foreseeable future, but we can certainly help our children navigate this new digital life.”

A statement provided by the Division of Education, Innovation, and Energy at the Tobago House of Assembly, said, “The Division of Education, Innovation and Energy commends Sagicor for answering the call to provide our students with the tools that would assist them with their online learning. We are grateful for Sagicor’s contribution of these devices which exemplifies their vision of improving the lives of the people in communities in which they operate. Our students would now be able to be engage with their peers and teachers as we fully embrace this digital era.”

A total of 104 devices have been placed in the hands of students following donations by Sagicor advisors, along with Sagicor’s donation to the Ministry of Education’s Adopt-a-School programme of 75 tablets to 13 schools across Trinidad and Tobago.
