Sagicor continues Covid-19 response with donation to St James Police Youth Club

June 02, 2021

Port of Spain, Trinidad—Regional insurance and financial services giant Sagicor continues to support citizens of Trinidad and Tobago in year two of the covid-19 global health pandemic, particularly in June, as the health regulations remain in place until July 4.

The company recently presented food hampers and sanitation supplies to the St James Police Youth Club to assist its membership and their families. The club, which was founded in 1992 by police officer Derrick Sharbodie and has been managed by him ever since, serves the needs of youths as an alternative to juvenile delinquency and crime. Sagicor’s relationship with the club began in 2013 and continues to this day, from donations of laptops and the implementation of a computer literacy programme.

Officer Sharbodie said, “The support of the private sector is important for these types of grass-roots movements. Sagicor’s donations over the years have been invaluable to the club as we are able to help individuals, not just through group activities. And now with the pandemic, it’s even more vital that we keep the youths engaged and on the straight and narrow.”

President and CEO of Sagicor Life Inc Robert Trestrail agrees. He said, “With more stringent measures in place to flatten the curve, vulnerable citizens may struggle to access the help they need. Sagicor’s mission drives us to support the communities in which we operate, particularly the elderly, children, and single parents.”

Sagicor will be supporting the vulnerable throughout Trinidad and Tobago, via partnerships with various non-governmental organisations and special interest groups to provide relief during this difficult time.
