Sagicor Commits To Matching Part Proceeds Raised For Sigma Run 2021 Beneficiaries
Kingston Jamaica: Sagicor Group Jamaica, through its charitable arm, the Sagicor Foundation will match dollar for dollar any amounts donated this week to the beneficiaries of the 23rd edition of the Sagicor Sigma Virtual Run.
The annual charity road race is aiming to raise $50 million dollars for three beneficiaries - the Annotto Bay and Port Antonio Hospitals, as well as to develop a 1-year programme to get the nation’s children back on track with their education.
“All donations received during this week (February 15th – 19th), Sagicor will match it; over the years, the funds raised for our beneficiaries would come from race registration, tent rentals, cash donations and fund raising executions among Sagicor team members; this year because the run has to be primarily virtually; we won’t see the usual participation of some 25,000 people and we want ensure we meet our target”, said Christopher Zacca, President and CEO, Sagicor Group Jamaica.
Zacca added that, “This year more than ever we know how great the needs are and the team here at Sagicor are committed to ensuring our benefitting hospitals get the medical equipment they need, plus we are looking forward to implementing the educational initiative once we are at a stage to do so, as we know a lot of students have been negatively affected by the disruption in schools due to the pandemic.”
Last year, for its 22nd staging of the Sigma Run in February, the company raised a record $55.3 million dollars for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, the Savanna-la-mar Hospital and the Clifton Boys Home.
