Coalition Against Domestic Violence welcomes Sagicor donation

The Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CADV) is one NGO that has cited an increase in the demand for its services since the onset of COVID-19. As such, the association welcomed a donation of 165 hampers containing personal care items, made recently by insurer Sagicor Life Inc as part of their Project Kindness project. Project Kindness is team-driven initiative that encourages volunteerism in Sagicor employees and creates a platform for their personal involvement in changing the lives of the people within our communities.

CADV general manager Sabrina Mowlah Baksh said, “Eliminating domestic violence requires action by all and sundry. The Coalition Against Domestic Violence recognises the tremendous difference that the corporate sector has made and continues to make. Thank you, Sagicor, for being one of those corporate sector entities that walks the talk.”

Like most organisations, the NGO has had to change the way it provides its services, with counselling moving online via the live chat feature on its website. According to the communications officer with CADV, Joneille Johnson, COVID-19 has also made fundraising a difficult endeavour and as such they were touched by the recent donation. CADV was started in 1988 and has provided support services for people affected by gender-based violence ever since.

Michelle Bell-Sookhoo, Assistant Vice President, Human Resources, for Sagicor Life Inc, said, “Sagicor supports a diverse group of organisations that are positioned to address the needs of a wide cross-section of society. We are particularly proud of the spirit and efforts of our team in bringing this project to fruition. We hope that this support will assist the Coalition in its ongoing work following on from its recognition of 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls late last year. We look forward to future opportunities to support the valuable work of the Coalition in Trinidad and Tobago.
