March 04, 2025

Bridgetown, Barbados- Ten families will continue to receive much-needed assistance this year through the Optimist Club of Barbados Central’s Adopt-A-Family Programme and continued support from insurance and financial solutions provider Sagicor.

The programme which was started in 2021 provides a monthly stipend and support to several at-risk families to help them overcome their vulnerabilities.  Immediate past president of the Club Ann Wallace-Elcock who was thrilled about the donation, said it represented more than a financial commitment. “It is a symbol of hope, resilience and community and support to the families for whom this donation is intended. Sagicor has been our steadfast partner from the programme’s inception four years ago. While it is only a small stipend to these families, it is also covering a support system to help them manage their lives and learn new skills.”

Beyond this year’s twenty-four thousand dollar ($24,000) donation, Sagicor will continue to provide administrative support and a place for the families in the programme to meet on a monthly basis, as they benefit from classes with PAREDOS and the Child Care Board (CCB).

Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc (Barbados) Paul Inniss has made a call for corporate Barbados to get on board and provide support where necessary to worthy causes, specifically those which seek to address some of the island’s challenges.

“The Adopt-A- Family programme is one of the critical ways in which we can provide benefit or participate in a solution to help our families in Barbados manage the various challenges associated with raising a family. We wanted to a make long-term commitment to support this worthy noble cause by the Optimist Club as they add value and do their part in finding a solution for those that need it most,” he said.

Over the years Sagicor’s team members have also been actively involved by also making donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, baby products and toys.
