Port of Spain, Trinidad—COVID-19 has upended life as we know it and at the forefront of that disruption are the nation’s children. As a responsible corporate citizen, Sagicor has answered the call of the Ministry of Education and was pleased to donate 75 tablets to 13 schools across Trinidad and Tobago.

Robert Trestrail, President and CEO, Sagicor Life Inc, said, at the brief handover ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Port of Spain, “Supporting people is one of the hallmarks of the insurance industry. This is no different. Each of us knows of someone who is impacted, not just financially by this health pandemic, but also in the battle to provide some semblance of educationalnormalcy to our nation’s children. Sagicor is happy to help in this tangible way and use this opportunity to also wish our students all the best as they embark on this new school term amidst the pandemic.They have our full and unwavering support.”

Minister of Education Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly expressed her gratitude to Sagicor on behalf of the principals from Tranquillity Government Primary School and Diego Martin Girls RC who were on hand to receive their allotment of devices for their schools.

She indicated that “the education sector has been severely impacted by the pandemic, which has affected the methods of teaching and learning globally. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is heartened by the support received from corporate T&T, and today Sagicor joins a plethora of companies which recognise that the education sector must fully embrace the digital era and have stepped up to the plate to assist in this transformation. We extend our thanks to Sagicor and encourage other companies to join our Adopt-a-School programme.”

The Ministry’s Adopt-a-School programme aims to close the gap between students who don’t have access to online learning due to a lack of devices, so that no child is left behind.
