Regional: Today, the world observes World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness, break stigmas, and promote mental well-being.
At Sagicor, we recognize that mental health is essential for overall well-being. This year’s theme, “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”, highlights the importance of support and care in today’s fast-paced environment.
Through wellness programmes, community initiatives, and digital resources, Sagicor ensures employees, clients, and communities have access to tools and guidance for managing mental health.
The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) states one in seven adolescents between 10 to 19 years old will experience a mental health condition. Depression and anxiety are among the top five in this age group, and suicide is ranked as the third leading cause of death for persons between 15 and 29 years old.
Understanding the importance of raising awareness of mental health, promoting education and better support for individuals with mental health challenges, Vice President of Employee Experience and Strategy – Human Resources at Sagicor (Southern Caribbean) Shane Howell said, “World Mental Health Day is a reminder that mental well-being is not a luxury but a necessity, it is not exclusive but is crucial for everyone. We remain committed to providing support, fostering understanding, and encouraging open conversations. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we create a space where everyone feels safe and are empowered to thrive."
As we recognize World Mental Health Day, it is important for us to strengthen our efforts to create a society where mental health is protected, valued, and accessible for all.
