Past Sagicor Foundation Scholar On Path To Becoming Neuroscientist, Now Studying At Princeton University
Sydnae Taylor, a past recipient of a secondary scholarship from the Sagicor Foundation, is one step closer to accomplishing her dream of becoming a neuroscientist.
The Campion College alumna is currently a second-year student at Princeton University in the United States, hoping to complete her first degree in Neuroscience, with minors in Global Health and Policy and Spanish.
Taylor’s journey with Sagicor began in 2012, while she attended the Immaculate Conception Preparatory School and was placed at the Campion College after sitting the Grade Six Achievement Test – the matriculation examination administered to students at the primary level at the time. Based on her stellar performance, young Taylor made her parents proud when she was awarded a renewable Sagicor Foundation Scholarship to offset school expenses throughout the course of her five-year tenure in high school.
The Sagicor Foundation Secondary Scholarship is offered to bright Jamaican students who exhibit exceptional academic performance in their primary school exit examination. To encourage continued excellence, the Foundation requires that the students maintain at least an 80 per cent average for the scholarship to be renewed annually.
“I believe that Sagicor has inspired many students to continue to persevere and strive for excellence. It was an honour to be a recipient of this award and I continue to be an advocate for the incredible investment that the Sagicor Foundation has made in education,” Taylor said.
For Taylor, the scholarship award was one of the catalysts that set her on a path to accomplishing her lifelong dream. In expressing her gratitude to the Foundation, the bright, young Jamaica scholar shared that the Sagicor Foundation scholarship helped in easing some of the financial burdens and allowed her the opportunity to have access to an outstanding secondary education.
