Successful US$150 million Bond Offering on US Market.

Sagicor Financial shareholders approve the removal of share ownership restrictions.

American Founders Life Insurance Company rebrands as Sagicor Life Insurance Company Limited.


2005

Life of Jamaica (LOJ) acquires majority interest in Pan Caribbean Financial Services. LOJ also purchases 50% of Employee Benefits A.

Sagicor USA Inc acquires Laurel Life and its wholly owned subsidiary, American Founders Life Insurance Company.

American Founders Life AM Best rating upgraded to “B++”.

LOJ subsidiary, Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands acquires 51% in Cayman General Insurance, rebranded Sagicor General.

LOJ receives first AM best rating “A-” Excellent.


2004

Sagicor Financial Corporation lists on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange.

Life of Jamaica (LOJ) acquires 20% of FamGuard Corporation in Bahamas.

LOJ also acquired Global Life Insurance in the Cayman Islands which has since been rebranded Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands.


2003

Sagicor Financial Corporation lists on the Barbados Stock Exchange.


2002

Sagicor launched successful Initial Public Offering.

Policyholders voted overwhelmingly in support of demutualization and to change the name to Sagicor.

Assets of the Group reach $US1 billion.

Acquired majority ownership of Life of Barbados to become the leading insurance-based financial institution in the Region.


2001

Led a consortium to acquire the majority shareholding in Life of Jamaica Limited

Acquired Allnation Insurance Company in Delaware, U.S. a subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield.


2000

Instructed by Board of Directors to create a plan to demutualize the company.


1999

Capital de Seguros established to provide life and health insurance in Panama.

Assets of the Group reached Bds$1 billion.

Acquired Nationwide Insurance Company in Trinidad.

A (Excellent) Rating from A M Best, one of the leading assessors of financial strength, strategic management and operating effectiveness of insurers.

Acquired majority shareholding in Island Life Insurance Company in Jamaica.


1998

GlobalSURE launched to offer multinational companies international benefit products for their expatriate and third country national employees.


1997

Launched the Mutual Global Balanced Fund in Barbados and Trinidad.


1996

Capital International Management Services formed to coordinate the Group’s business development and expansion initiatives.


1994

Mutual Bank of The Caribbean Inc introduces first local credit card to Barbados. Spearheaded the formation of CariCard, a regional card processing company.


1993

Created the Mutual Bank of The Caribbean Inc – the first indigenous private sector bank in Barbados.


1988

Established the General Insurance Division in Barbados.


1987

The Mutual Finance Company Limited formed in Barbados.

Acquired Travelers Life Insurance Company Overseas and renamed it Capital Life Insurance Company with operations in Aruba, Curaçao, St Maarten, Haiti, Belize, Cayman Islands and the Bahamas.


1969

Launched the Segregated Bonds and Equity Funds in Barbados.

The Mutual celebrates its 100th year.

Established an office in Jamaica.

Established an office in Dominica.

Established an office in Berbice, Guyana.

Established an office in Demerara, Guyana.
